Slow Food Delta Diablo: FRESH! The Movie

Slow Food Delta Diablo: FRESH! The Movie

FRESH! The Movie

Tonight at 6 pm Slow Food Delta Diablo and the Walnut Creek Library are hosting a free showing of FRESH! The Movie. If you care about your food and where it comes from, this is the film to see. It focuses on how to make alternatives to the industrial, monoculture of agriculture work. It's a positive, fresh look at our food system offering solutions instead of just exposing the bad. The screening starts at 6 pm upstairs in the community room at the main branch of the Walnut Creek Library on Broadway.

Nibblers

A nice group of people showed up to the April Third Thursday at Nibblers in Pleasant Hill. The conversations were lively and the food and wine were tasty.
We were all happy to see Daniel and Trace and are thankful that they had set aside a block of tables for us. We needed them all. It was great to see some new faces and we hope to see them all again.

Next month: Thursday, May 19 at Pizza Antica in Lafayette.

April Happenings

The turnout for "The Real Dirt on Farmer John" was really good. There were a few members of Slow Food Delta Diablo but a lot of non-members. It gave us an opportunity to introduce our movement and talk about our goals.

Our next film will be FRESH on Saturday, April 30 at 6 pm at the Walnut Creek Library on Broadway. Please join us. FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet.

Please also remember Third Thursday on April 21st, 6 pm at Nibbler's in Pleasant Hill. We will have an informal gathering for whoever would like to show up, share a drink or just hang out with other people interested in Slow Food. Both events are free!

The epic tale of a maverick Midwestern farmer. An outcast in his community, Farmer John bravely stands amidst a failing economy, vicious rumors, and violence.
By melding the traditions of family farming with the power of art and free expression, this powerful story of transformation and renewal heralds a resurrection of farming in America.

The film is a haunting odyssey, capturing what it means to be different in rural America.
